Purchasing 9 FAQs

Can I Buy the Headlight Kit Without the Fog Light Kit?

Yes, however, we will have to place the order for you. You can call us at (706) 955-0677 to place the order, or send us an email with your request. We will then place the order for you and send you a PayPal payment request. We offer $10 off for the omission of fog lights from a complete headlight kit.

Fog lights are cut from the excess material surrounding the headlight that would otherwise be waste, so the same amount of film is being used with or without the fog lights.

Installation 9 FAQs

Can I Do a Custom Design With Lamin-x?

Custom installations can easily be done with any form of our film: pre-cut, sheet, or bulk roll. Simply cover the desired surface and trim to your liking by scoring the top layers of the Lamin-x. No need to cut all the way through the film, just score it and peel away the unwanted film.

Can I Install the Lamin-x Film Myself?

Customer Installation Disclaimer: Lamin-x Protective Films makes every effort to ensure that all of our pre-cut kits have been rechecked for fitment on each specific make and model advertised. However, a "professional quality" installation does require some acquired knowledge and mechanical ability, for which Lamin-x Protective Films cannot be responsible.

We will provide instructions and tools with your order, and can provide assistance via telephone or e-mail correspondence. Also, if you would like, we can attempt to locate an installer in your general area, or you can also use our Dealer Locator to find an installer.

We include installation instructions and application tools with your order, and, if problems or questions arise during your installation, you can call us - our customer service associates would be happy to assist you.

How Do I Know What Size Universal Sheet I Need?

Measure the surface where the film is going to be applied from top to bottom and side to side. Take into consideration any bends, bulges, or compound curves on the light's surface, as these features will increase the amount of material needed when wrapping. Once you have determined the dimensions, choose the most appropriate size for your need. Please contact us if you require a more custom size than what is listed.

Note: A Tailor's Tape works best when measuring for bulk film.

Under the 'General Install' help heading on our Installation Videos page you can find a how-to video of this.

What To Do About Fogginess, Bubbles, Scratches or Surface Marks After My Installation?

Once the film fully cures, most imperfections will disappear completely. Lamin-x is a porous (breathable) and self-healing poly-vinyl film. Small scratches, trapped moisture, and most bubbles will dissipate on their own. However, if you encounter a stubborn bubble, you can poke it with a sewing needle and push out the air or water. The hole will eventually close on its own. Creases/ripples arising from installation will also settle over time.

Original Help Center article

Where Can I Find the Level of Installation Difficulty for a Kit?

View the tab entitled 'Installation' near the bottom of the page and it will reveal the product's installation difficulty.

It will be rated anywhere from 1 to 5 with 1 being deemed as relatively easy and 5 being deemed difficult.

If you have never worked with a material similar to Lamin-x we'd encourage you to look at using our Universal Sheets to perform the installation.

This product is made from the exact same material as our precut kits.

Generally speaking, it is more forgiving to work with as you don't have to line up the edges as you would with a precut kit and you are also afforded more material to work with.

Once this product is installed on the lens surface it requires trimming off any excess film around the light.

Can I Remove Lamin-x From My Lights?

Lamin-x Protective Film can easily be removed without damaging the light. Upon initial application, the film can be peeled up and reapplied numerous times if not installed correctly. The film and its adhesive are designed for this! Once the film has settled (24-48 hours), the product is no longer considered reusable. To remove a long-term installation, warm the film and peel it off slowly. If there is any adhesive left on the lens, simply roll it into a ball using your finger or thumb. Use an adhesive remover, or a similar product that is safe for automotive finishes, to remove any left-over residue.

How much does your film reduce light output?

Our film reduces light by varying percentages.

  • Tint: 40% reduction
  • Gunsmoke: 60% reduction
  • Smoked: 65% reduction
  • Charcoal: 80% reduction
  • Yellow: 10% reduction
  • Blue: 30% reduction
  • Green: 40% reduction
  • Amber: 40% reduction
  • Pink: 50% reduction
  • Red: 70% reduction

While there are reductions in the light output from our tint options, the options for forward facing lighting (headlight and fog light) are our lowest options and still allow enough light through to drive at night.

Original Help Center article

I Can't Find a Precut Kit for My Vehicle. What Should I Do?

You may find that we do not have a pre-cut kit available for a certain light, or in some cases, an entire vehicle. The best solution for this is the custom fitment of our Universal Sheets. The preferred method for professional installers, applying an uncut sheet is just as easy and more forgiving. This is because the bulk sheets do not need to be perfectly aligned to fit properly - just cover the desired area and trim the film to your liking.

What Country Do You Create Your Precut Patterns From?

Our pre-cut kits are designed from USA based and sold makes and models. If you are an international customer, please be aware that some international versions of your vehicle may be different than US models. Some examples of the differences include; year spans of a model, fog lights shapes or sizes, trim levels naming or designations, headlights or tail lights different, deleted side markers on bumpers, etc... Please compare your model to USA designated models before ordering your pre-cut kit.

Original Help Center article

What is the Difference Between a Precut Kit and a Universal Sheet?

A precut kit has been technologically engineered to match the shape/contour of your light or in the case of paint protection to match the surface area on your vehicle that the product will be installed on.

A universal kit is designed to go on any light and/or surface area of the vehicle. Typically, one can expect to have to trim the film in order to get it to your liking.

In the case of a product like our Universal Sheets, they are good to use on more difficult installations and also when we don't have a precut kit available. They are much more forgiving to work with as you don't have to align the edges of the film with the light.

Lost Item Policies

Packages presumed to be lost

Order issues for packages presumed to be lost by the carrier (where the status is not "delivered") must be filed no sooner than 7 days after the last tracking update for United States domestic shipments (20 days for international shipments, including Canada unless a Canadian merchant is shipping within Canada in which case the 7 day domestic shipment timeline applies) and within 30 days from the last checkpoint.

Invalid address or delivery barriers

  • Sometimes carriers cannot deliver the customer’s package due to an invalid address or other unexpected delivery barriers. At this point, the carrier might return the package to the sender/retailer. The customer’s package is not actually lost, thus Route does not cover this. In instances where the item is being returned to the sender and is reusable, customers will be referred to the retailer.
  • The exception is retailers that ship perishable items (e.g. food, a mattress that cannot be reused).

Only part of the order delivered

  • If the customer ordered several items in one package but only part of the order arrived and there is no evidence of tampering, Route does not cover the order issue. The customer will be referred to the retailer.
  • If a single order is being shipped in multiple packages and one package does not arrive, Route will cover the order issue and reorder or refund the value of the undelivered package.
  • If the retailer forgets to ship an item from the customer’s order, the customer needs to reach out to the retailer to have the missing items fulfilled.

Packages labeled "return to sender"

  • Route does not cover packages labeled return to sender because the order has been sent back to the retailer. Items are returned to sender when a customer provides an invalid or undeliverable address or refuses a delivery.
  • At our discretion, we may cover the order issue if the returned item is perishable or if the retailer is unable to reuse it.*
  • Route covers the customer’s order if the package gets lost in-transit back to the sender.*

*Please note: Route Package Protection timeframes for filing apply. Order stuck in customs

  • Route cannot cover when a customer’s order is stuck in international borders/customs.
  • The customer’s next step is to pay the customs fees in order to receive the package.
  • If Route replaces something the customer has already paid customs on, under Route’s discretion, Route can approve and pay customs the second time.

Order marked as unfulfilled or unshipped

  • If the customer’s order is marked as unfulfilled or unshipped, the order hasn’t been fulfilled yet by the retailer (retailer could be low on inventory of the items, internal delays with the fulfillment center, etc.).
  • Route does not control how quickly the retailer ships the customer’s order. Route Package Protection is not yet in action because the order has not shipped.

Order issue filed too soon

  • If the customer is filing an order issue the same day that the package was marked as delivered, at our discretion Route may ask you to wait 5 business days. Carriers (FedEx, USPS, UPS, DHL, etc.) sometimes prematurely mark the package as delivered when it’s still in transit.

Warranty 3 FAQs

What is Lamin-x's Shelf Life?

We highly recommend all Lamin-x kits are installed within 30 days of receiving the film. If you wait too long to install the film, it can shrink and lose its shape, causing the installation to fail.

It is because of this reason, we will not accept returns for installation/fitment issues after 30 days.

Original Help Center article

What Kind of Warranty Do You Have On Your Lamin-x Kits?

Lamin-x Protective Films warrants its manufactured protective films against cracking, fading, turning yellow or manufacturing defects for a period of five (5) years from the date of purchase. The warranty is valid as long the proper maintenance is performed by the purchaser and as the original purchaser retains ownership of the vehicle. The above warranty does not cover any defects other than those specified above, and is made solely to the original purchaser and may not be transferred.

No warranty is expressed or implied if the customer incurs damage due to improper installation techniques, normal wear, or abuse of the product. The obligation of Lamin-x under this warranty is limited to replacement of Lamin-x products only, not applicable to labor or consequential costs.

If you are not having installation success, reapply the Lamin-x back onto the provided backing liner and immediately contact our customer service team for assistance and resolution.

Do NOT discard the product, as our return authorization or refund process requires images of product and/or installation.

Original Help Center article

Will Lamin-x Film Burn?

We have seen occasional cases on fog lights in which the film and/or adhesive discolors due to fog light temperatures. If this occurs, please send photos so we can verify the concern; this may be covered under our 5 year warranty. We recommend only having the fog lights on while the vehicle is in motion, as the airflow will help to cool the lens surface. Leaving the fog lights on while the vehicle is parked can create too much heat and cause the adhesive to burn/discolor.
